Connecting Professionals to Communities

Clinical Coordination
The Northeast Iowa AHEC coordinates clinical experiences for students actively pursuing healthcare careers. We help to provide exposure beyond the classroom with a more hands-on experience in your intended profession. Clinical training often fulfills educational requirements while giving you the experience you need.

AHEC Preceptors
Preceptors are recruited to provide you with education and training in your area of interest. Clinical training allows you to build a network of contacts through established relationships with professionals who may become references, mentors and, someday, peers.

Practice in Iowa
The need for healthcare providers in Northeast Iowa is great. Our hope is that you come away with an excellent clinical experience, as well as many new professional connections. We believe time spent learning and living in the area will allow you to see the way of life available to practitioners in the various communities of Northeast Iowa. It is a way of life many current Iowa providers are fond of. Find out more about "A Practice Worth Living" as highlighted by Iowa Medical Society at http://www.practiceworthliving.com/.

Student Experiences
We strive to make our students feel that being part of AHEC is being part of something special. Our efforts are reflected in this remark shared by a past clinical training student:

"AHEC feels like a group where they’re watching out for us, watching out for our best interests."

Consider Rural Medicine
Why? Dr. Longenecker shares his reasons after 30 years of Rural Medicine experience in the AAMC's January 2010 publication. Additionally, a medical student training in rural Tennesse is highlighted in this People Magazine article: Notes from a Country Doctor.

Being exposed to all these doctors and different specialties is allowing me to build relationships for feeling comfortable asking for advice, whether it’s for a career path and eventually possibly being peers with
them.
